Kind of relates to the coaches rating thing, I see it so much, if I upset them I get a bad rating, instead of get out there and do it right. Sadly there are a group of officials who work to their rating and not the game. On another topic, is it me or are we taking forever to resume play on faceoffs in the N? So many discussions players warned, players tossed, faceoffs called back etc. Now I know players take a while to adjust at the beginning of a season to new rules, points of emphasis etc, but I watch a lot of hockey, and I can count on one hand during some games how many times we all line up, drop and go without something happening first. Keep up the articles love the stripes point of view.

Paul- Last night at the Buffalo-Calgary game the officials acted like they were both rookies. They were calling penalties on plays that they 'assumed' were penalties even though the NHL guys being so talented no inftraction really occurred. There was an offsides called that the NHL player was talentd enough to control they puck while spinning going in, never should have been called offsides. They took forever doing things like adjusting the time clock. They weren't sure where some faceoffos should be. Rob Ray was announcing between the benches and noted he had never seen these officials before, making me think the 4 of them must be rookies.
Why wouldn't they pair these guys with experienced partners?

I feel like it's just you, they always take forever. The players behind the official are jousting, requiring another official to come in and talk to them, one of the centermen has his toe over the line, so everyone backs up and resets and that takes another 10 seconds, the defending player refuses to put his stick down first in a timely manner, etc... rinse and repeat.

I'm pretty sure he was being sarcastic.

I really don't think you are right. They sure did act like 4 rookies out there and I think Ray was serious.

Could be, but I don't remember this many guys getting tossed out, next game I swear I'm gonna count how many times the original 2 players actually take the faceoff, bet I don't need 2 hands.

In what universe do coaches get to actually give an official rating? That is insane.

In my home town during tournaments they keep a room open for teams to clear up concerns and confusion. It is meant for scheduling/tie break type of things but of course the coaches go there to cry about officiating.

One coach complained about me because he felt that i have his team to many penalties while they were getting slaughtered. Well, the other team always had the puck and it was a festival of tripping and hooking.

The ref chief actually had to follow up with me (even though he knew the complaint was absurd).

I had almost tossed the coaching for screaming at his own players like a lunatic. He called a 10 year old girl (house league) a lazy little poop.

I gave him a warning over this, which is the real reason he was upset. This is the kind of coach who should be allowed to rate an official? Crazy

Shouldn't be a coach? Shouldn't be allowed near children!

If where you officiate doesn't then count your blessings, but in many youth area's especially school sports that is exactly how officials are rated, I have had to explain, or even show a coach a rule book to show them a rule they didn't know, but yet they have the power.
